Christmas Blessings
A Christmas message from our CEO.
Dear Friends and Supporters,
I want to take a moment to thank you personally for supporting Chiltern Foodbank in 2025. Your generosity, especially in a time when living costs continue to rise, allows us to help those in our community who are facing crisis.
Our services continue to be in demand. However, it is encouraging that we anticipate the number of food parcel requests and overall meals provided in 2025 to have fallen slightly, with early indications that preventative support is starting to make an impact.
At the heart of our work is the hope for an end to foodbanks. We strive to learn from our data, work closely with clients, and collaborate with external partners and our colleagues at Trussell. Our strategic focus remains on preventative approaches that can reduce food poverty as early as possible.
This year we have made several positive changes within our team. We appointed two Deputy Coordinators, Kate and Julie, and welcomed a new Treasurer, Brian, strengthening our leadership and ensuring that the foodbank continues to run efficiently and sustainably. We have also moved all our accounts onto an online software package, saving valuable volunteer time.
Alongside providing emergency food, we invest in “fast track” access for our clients to financial reviews, money management, and debt advice. This support has already helped many of our clients regain stability and take control of their financial situation. It is heartening to see the positive difference this targeted approach is making in people’s lives.
After five years of running the Foodbank, I will be moving on in early 2025. I leave the Foodbank in the very capable hands of our Deputy Coordinators and our fantastic volunteers. Our Trustees are currently recruiting a new CEO, who will focus on refining our strategic plan for the coming period and building new partnerships to support our clients as they get back on their feet.
As I reflect on the year, I am continually amazed by the generosity and commitment of our volunteers, supporters, and wider community. Your support, whether through donations, time, or advocacy, is what allows us to respond effectively and compassionately to those in need.
If you know anyone who may need support, please ask them to contact the local food crisis freephone helpline on 0808 175 7123. We want to ensure that everyone in need knows help is available and no one suffers in silence.
On behalf of myself, our deputies Kate and Julie, the Board of Trustees, and all our volunteers, I send heartfelt Christmas blessings to you and your loved ones, and wish you a happy and prosperous New Year.
With gratitude,
Diane Rutter
CEO Chiltern Foodbank
