About
About our foodbank
Here is an introduction to our project.
Our foodbank is a project founded by local churches and community groups, working together towards stopping hunger in our local area.
We set up in January 2011 as Chesham Foodbank at the small Annexe at St. Mary’s Church, Chesham. In 2012 we recognised that we were serving a wider community than just Chesham and changed our name to Chiltern Foodbank and became an independent charity. Distribution Centres were also established in Little Chalfont and Amersham in 2012 and in Wendover in the following year.
Having outgrown the Annexe we moved to our present retail premises in Chesham’s Broadway in August 2014 and from here we supply our distribution centres with ready made foodboxes.
In 2019 we opened a distribution centre in Prestwood in order to improve food access to those in need in the HP16 area and in early 2020 we opened a distribution centre at Gold Hill Baptist Church in Chalfont St.Peter to serve St.Giles & St.Peter, Chalfont Common, Denham and Gerrards Cross.
During 2020 we responded to the COVID-19 pandemic and national lockdowns by setting up a delivery service with a team of volunteer drivers who deliver the food parcels directly to the homes of those people in need. Thus reducing face to face contact and minimising the spread of the virus. This is currently how we are running our service.
